According to 2022 data from the Association of Social Workers Exam Board, "first-time pass rates have historically been highest for white test-takers, averaging 85.8% during the 2018-2021 time period", with Hispanic/Latino test takers averaging 63% and Black test takers faring even worse, at 44.5%.

Given that more and more agencies are requiring social workers to have the first level of licensure, the low rates of passing for Black and Hispanic test-takers serves as a barrier. These social workers may face difficulty securing sustainable employment and upward financial mobility.
